Day 1: Welcome to Thessaloniki – Kerkini Lake (_,_D)

Morning arrival to Thessaloniki. Meet our staf at the airport, welcome. Drive from airport to Kerkini lake, one of the 10 most valuable wetland habitats in Greece with about 300 species of birds and rare animals. Tour around the lake and admire the beautiful flamingos.Stop at the buffalo waterland farm with the magnificent buffalos walking near you. All these are combined with the wonderful view of Mount Beles and the majestic valley of Serres.Overnight at Kerkini village. Dinner at a local tavern.
Note. Late arrival in Thessaloniki. Meet and Greet at thessaloniki airport. Transfer to hotel in Thessaloniki for overnight. Dinner at the hotel or a local tavern. Next day we start our tour from Thessaloniki to Kerkini lake and follow the 2nd day’s tour.

Day 2:Kerkini Lake – Edessa waterfalls – Loutra Pozar – Agios Athanasios (B,_,D)

After breakfast ride a boat tour to the forest of Strymon river delta to see the birds in their nests and the large concentrations of flamingos, pelicans and cormorants. Then drive to Kaimamtsalan Loutra Pozar waterfalls, where you can a swim in the large swimming pool We continue to Edessa waterfalls, short stop for a coffee. Later we arrive to Agios Athanasios traditional village for overnight. Dinner at a local tavern

Day 3: Florina – Prespes Lake – Kastoria (B,_,D)
After breakfast drive to Florina. Walk along the river that runs through the city in a short distance from the town’s main street and its charming nice cafes along the river. Continue to Prespes Lake. Take a boat trip to see the post-Byzantine frescos painted on the rock and the abandoned hermitages built on the cliffs near the lake. Cross the walkway and stroll around the island of Agios Achillios, the one-street village, to the ruins of the Byzantine basilica of Agios Achillios. Drive to Kastoria (Included in the “Natura 2000” network and Monument of Natural Beauty) where we enjoy a tour around the lake following the narrow coastal road, between beeches and plane trees, before we get to hotel for check in. Dinner at a local tavern.

4th day: Konitsa – Aoos river – Aristi – Papigo – Papigo Rock pools – Monodendri (B,_,D)
This day we’ll explore Zagorochoria area, We take the narrow winding difecult road through the mountains to Monodendri. First in our route is Konitsa where we’ll see the largest single-span stone-arch bridge over Aoos river, built in 1870. We continue to Zagorochoria villages Aristi bridge on the banks of the Voidomatis River, Papigo and Mikro Papigo where we visit the Papigo rock pools. Then drive to Monodendri for overnight. Dinner at a local tavern with local pie dishes.

Day 5: Explore Zagorochoria area – Vikos gorge – Voidomatis river – Kalambaka (B,_,D)
Today we continue to Explore the Zagorochoria area. Morning short walk to Agia Paraskevi monastery, vantage point of Vikos gorge, with amazing views of gorge. The next stop is the observation point Oxya, a natural viewing platform over the deepest part of the gorge, for breathtaking views of the gorge. On the way to Oxya we’ll pass the stone forest (Petrodasos), which is a natural monument with rocky formations with horizontal layers of stone. Then drive to Kipoi village, where just after the turning for Dilofo, we find the impressive Kokkori Bridge, above the Voidomatis river, dating from 1750 and next the impresive 3 arches stone bridge of Plakida. Then drive to Ioannina. Walk next to lake with beautiful views, craft market with the silversmith shops, in the castle with the Ottoman buildings and the Jewish synagogue (visit upon request). Continue to traditional village of Metsovo where you can test its delicious smoked cheese and the local wine. Now taking the highway we arrive to Kalambaka for overnight. Dinner at a local tavern with monasteries view.

Day 6: Meteora – Olympos mountain – Litochoro (B,_,D)

Morning short drive to Meteora. Guided visit to unique Meteora. We’ll see 2 Byzantine Monasteries (too many steps) standing between earth and the sky, atop of huge rocks and containing historical and religious treasures. The first Monastery was founded in the 14th-16th century by a monk from Mount Athos. Then driving trough central Greece we arrive to Litochoro at the foots of mount Olympos. After check in short walk at Enipeas river. Dinner at the hotel or a local tavern

Day 7: Litochoro – Dion – Waterfall Ourlias – Veria – Vergina -Thessaloniki (B,_,D) 

After breakfast short drive to Dion. From Dion we take an easy hiking (1hr) to the impressive waterfall of Kokkinos Vrachos. (If the road is in good condition we can start our 15min hiking from the church of Ag.Konstsntinos) Then drive to Veria – Vergina and guided visit to the royal tomb of king Philippe, father of Alexander the Great. Continue our driving north we arrive to Thessaloniki for overnight. Dinner at alocal tavern at Ladadika with Greek live music.

Day 8: Thessaloniki city tour – Departure (B,_,_)

Thessaloniki guided city tour, including White tower area, market, Agia Sofia, Agios Dimitrios, Rotonda and Arch of Galerious, Kastra and city walls. Jewish sites visit (Jewish museum – Holocaust Memorial & Synagogue “Yad Hzicaron”) upon request. Transfer to Thessaloniki airport for your flight back home.
